This Sustainability Report Summary evidences our performance against each of the four UN Sustainable Development Goals of our Sustainability Strategy. 

We will achieve our business goal ‘to become a sustainable business for our people’ through our Sustainability Working Group champions actively engaging with our employees and other key stakeholders to implement and deliver our Sustainability Strategy.

Winner of the UK NSAN 'Securing Sustainability through Skills Award 2023' and achieved Silver membership level for Supply Chain Sustainability School 

Engagement Score of 75% for our iSay survey

We hold the ISO 45 001 Occupational Health and Safety Management and ISO 9001 Quality Management System accreditation.

Celebrated 2 Million Free Hours of Lost Time Injuries and our 5th consecutive year of Winning The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Award for our organisation's health and safety performance.

Held our first community work placement with the ‘Women's Work Lab' charity.

Collaboratively reducing environmental footprints by being circular and sourcing ethically

Supplier onboarding process enhanced by introducing sustainability criteria into our PQQ to help inform our responsible business decision making.

19,520 m3 of surface water re-used for Hinkley Point C dust suppression to improve and control the local air quality.

Electronic ways of working trialled to reduce printing and paper usage to transform our work habits to digital form.

Collaborative working with our PPE supplier, Mathias to implement our single use plastic packing pledge. 

Re-using plastic PET sampling bottles for undertaking daily on-site wastewater field-testing, saving at least six bottles a day from being disposed of.

Environmental Management to protect the aquatic environment

Three local beach cleans held with our employees collecting over 170kg of litter (80% plastic) and contributing towards a National Beach Clean Survey.

Over 1,300 surface water, groundwater and wastewater quality samples collected and sent for laboratory testing for operational monitoring.

We hold the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems (EMS) accreditation.

Increased the capacity of our surface water treatment through the creation of a new Water Management Zone at Hinkley Point C. 

Plans in place to enhance our biological wastewater treatment process by commissioning Mechanical Biological Bio-reactor (MBBR) unit equipment for the temporary sewage treatment works at Hinkley Point C.

Consideration and respect for the terrestrial environment

250 UK native trees planted to date through our Green Organisation membership.

Five young rabbits rescued from a stockpile at one of our working platforms and taken to the local Wildlife Charity ‘Secret world’ to be cared for. 

Seven diesel generators removed from our operation platforms and HuSSh Pod battery powered sustainable energy units trialled as alternatives. 

Environmental monitoring team established for noise, air quality, dust and light pollution and a digital monitoring system for 37 new locations on and off Hinkley Point C site. 

Scope expansion for the dewatering of the Hinkley Point Construction site to prevent flooding and enable work on-site to continue.
